The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has raised alarm over what it described as an increasing trend of lobbying and unofficial influence-seeking by some officers for special promotions.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF expressed concern that the practice is being fueled by misleading media reports following the recent approval of accelerated promotions for selected officers.
Adejobi clarified that the recent special promotions were not arbitrary but followed a structured reward system aimed at recognising officers who have exhibited exceptional performance, bravery, professional excellence, and dedication to duty. He emphasized that the beneficiaries met clearly defined criteria and standards.
The Force strongly refuted a report by an unnamed online platform alleging that promotions were being awarded indiscriminately, describing the claims as false and aimed at discrediting the integrity of the police promotion process.
“The recent exercise does not represent the beginning of a blanket or indiscriminate special promotion programme,” the statement noted, urging the public to disregard the publication.
The NPF also warned officers against attempting to influence the promotion process through lobbying or any other unofficial means, stating that such conduct breaches ethical standards and will attract disciplinary sanctions as stipulated by law.
Reaffirming its commitment to merit based advancement, the Nigeria Police stressed that its promotion system remains rooted in integrity, verifiable performance, and honourable service to the nation.
Officers were further encouraged to uphold discipline and continue carrying out their duties with professionalism and pride.
