Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has flagged off the distribution of food palliatives to 57,647 vulnerable households in Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area as part of efforts to cushion the impact of economic hardship during the lean season.
The distribution exercise, which took place on Monday, is targeted at residents of Gamboru Ngala and Kala Balge two LGAs where routine palliative support continues due to ongoing insecurity and limited access to farmland.
Governor Zulum, represented by the Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Ali Abdullahi Isa, reaffirmed the government’s resolve to support affected communities while working towards restoring normalcy and encouraging agricultural recovery.
“Our decision to scale back palliative distributions in most LGAs was based on last year’s bumper harvest. However, Gamboru Ngala and Kala Balge face unique challenges, which is why we’re sustaining these interventions,” Zulum said.
He noted that the distribution is a short-term measure while the government intensifies collaboration with security agencies to ensure residents can safely return to their farms—an essential step toward long-term food security and economic empowerment.
Each household is receiving a 25kg bag of rice and a 25kg bag of maize. The distribution is being carried out across six centres, including Ngala Town, GG Gamboru, Gamboru Ajari, Arabic Camp, International Camp, and Kasuwan Shanu.
Governor Zulum also urged residents to pray for lasting peace in the state and a fruitful harvest in the ongoing farming season.
