The Adamawa State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its crime-fighting efforts, arresting 567 suspects and rescuing 13 trafficked children and four kidnap victims during its second quarter operations between April and June 2025.
Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babatola Morris, made the disclosure during a press briefing held at the Command Headquarters in Yola, where he outlined the achievements of the command in combating various forms of criminal activity.
According to the CP, the suspects were apprehended for serious offences including kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, child trafficking, culpable homicide, and activities linked to the “Shilla” gang — a notorious group known for violent crimes in urban areas across the state.
One of the most significant breakthroughs, he said, was the rescue of thirteen trafficked children who were stolen from Adamawa and sold in Anambra State. The rescue followed an intelligence-led investigation coordinated by the Anti-Kidnapping and Crack Squad, led by ACP Shuaibu Wara, in collaboration with other tactical and intelligence units of the command.
“These children were traced, located, and safely recovered. We are currently working to reunite them with their biological families after completing proper identification and verification procedures,” Morris stated.
He revealed that two women — Mrs. Ngozi Abdulwahab, 43, of Jambutu in Yola North LGA, and Mrs. Uche Okoye, 55, of Kabiku in Nnewi, Anambra State — were arrested in connection with the trafficking syndicate. The suspects are believed to have orchestrated multiple child theft and trafficking operations across several parts of the country.
“This disturbing case is a stark reminder of the ongoing threat of human trafficking. All suspects arrested will be prosecuted accordingly,” he added.
The CP also confirmed the rescue of four kidnapped individuals and commended residents of the state for providing vital intelligence that contributed to the success of the operations.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his steadfast support to the police and emphasized the role of community engagement in achieving sustainable security.
“Our achievements during this period underscore the value of strong community-police cooperation. We remain committed to making Adamawa a safer place for all,” Morris said.
The police assured that the rescued children are in safe hands and will be reunited with their families once all due processes are completed.
