Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has called on the Federal Government and well-meaning individuals to support local innovators in Benue State as part of efforts to drive economic growth and self-reliance.

Speaking at the inaugural “Made in Benue Products Exhibition” held at IBB Square, Makurdi, Governor Alia emphasized the importance of investing in entrepreneurship as a means to empower communities and build a sustainable economy.

Acknowledging the impact of past neglect and infrastructural decay, he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reviving moribund industries and establishing new ones. He cited the successes of the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC)in fostering the growth of mini-industries and reducing dependence on external markets.

The governor commended the Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Aduwole, for her presence and continued support for Benue’s industrialization efforts.

Dr. Aduwole praised the innovative products showcased at the event, acknowledging Governor Alia’s role in creating an enabling environment for entrepreneurship. She reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Investment to supporting local businesses and promoting their products for both domestic and international markets.

In his remarks, Commissioner of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Mr. Nick Eworo, described the exhibition as a clear indication of Benue’s readiness to become a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. He highlighted the governor’s policy direction, which prioritizes industrialization and economic empowerment.

Similarly, the Commissioner of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Mr. Orpin Manasseh Alumo, revealed that financial institutions are ready to fund local innovators to refine and expand their products, providing a pathway for economic transformation.

Adding to this, Benita Shuluwa, Director General of the Bureau of Entrepreneurship and Wealth Creation, underscored the importance of collaboration between government and private entities.

She stressed that with adequate funding, training, and intellectual property protections, Benue could emerge as a major industrial hub in Nigeria.

The exhibition showcased locally crafted products, emphasizing Benue’s potential to establish a self-sufficient industrial base and further solidify its role as Nigeria’s food basket.
