The Nasarawa State Police Command has appealed to political parties in the state to reschedule rallies and other political gatherings scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2026, to avoid possible clashes and ensure adequate security.
The appeal follows the planned rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement at Lafia Square, Lafia, where the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is expected to be in attendance.
The command said the advisory was aimed at preventing clashes between supporters of different political parties, forestalling attempts by hoodlums to hijack political activities and ensuring the smooth movement of the First Lady and other dignitaries expected at the event.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, said rescheduling other political gatherings would enable security agencies to coordinate their operations effectively and maintain public order.
The command acknowledged the constitutional rights of political parties to freedom of association, peaceful assembly and political participation but urged political stakeholders to prioritise public safety and peaceful coexistence.
It called on all political parties to cooperate with the advisory by moving their planned rallies and gatherings to a later date in the interest of security.
The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, Shetima Jauro Muhammad, reiterated the command’s commitment to providing a level playing field for all political parties and ensuring that political activities are conducted peacefully and in accordance with the law.
The command also appealed to political party leaders, their supporters and residents to remain law-abiding and support efforts to sustain peace and security across the state.
