In a dramatic turn of events, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has reportedly blocked military access to the Aba-Port Harcourt road, preventing their movement into Rivers State.
The governor’s decision has sparked widespread demonstrations, with thousands of Abia youths taking to the streets in protest.
Even before an official statement was released, demonstrators had already barricaded the road, vowing to resist any attempt by the military to pass through.
Reinforcing the state’s stance, Governor Otti declared, “We cannot grant you passage through our land to invade our brothers in Rivers State.
Allowing such an attack would be a crime against our people. If you must proceed, use the air, but we won’t give you access by road.”
As of this morning, reports indicate that over 100,000 Abia youths have mobilized along the road, forming human barricades to prevent military advancement. The situation remains tense, with no clear resolution in sight.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether the military will attempt an alternative route or engage in negotiations to ease the standoff.
