The Delta State Police Command has rescued five church members abducted during an all-night service in Ogwashi-Uku after a dramatic gun battle with kidnappers in the Ubuluku-Ogwashi-Uku forests.

The attack, which saw gunmen storm a church, shooting the pastor and abducting five congregants, sparked an intense police response. Fortunately, the pastor is now in stable condition, and all kidnapped victims have been safely recovered.

According to Delta Police Public Relations Officer,  Bright Edafe, officers from the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad pursued the armed kidnappers into the forest and engaged them in a fierce exchange of gunfire.

The suspected kidnappers, identified as Fulani, were overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the police and were forced to flee, abandoning their captives.

During the operation, police recovered 13 expended cartridges and a bag containing ₦1.3 million, suspected to be ransom money.

The Delta State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of residents. This successful rescue operation reinforces their determination to make the state safer.

Residents who spoke with WorldClass247News, applauded the swift action of the police, hailing their bravery and dedication.

The command urges the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to aid in the fight against crime.
