The Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have commended the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for its critical contributions to disaster mitigation and humanitarian interventions across Nigeria.
The commendation came on Monday in Jalingo, Taraba State, during a courtesy visit by NEMA officials led by the agency’s North-East Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Yakubu Lawal.
Speaking during the visit, Brigade Commander Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa praised NEMA for its consistent efforts in responding to emergencies and alleviating the impact of disasters on affected communities.
“The role NEMA plays in cushioning the impact of disasters is commendable, and 6 Brigade remains ever ready to support your operations whenever the need arises,” he stated.
In his remarks, Mr. Lawal expressed gratitude for the Army’s continued support, particularly highlighting the military’s intervention during the 2024 flood emergency in Borno State.
He also warned of predicted flooding in parts of Taraba and Adamawa States due to anticipated heavy rains, calling for ongoing collaboration between the military and disaster response agencies to prevent loss of lives and property.
Another NEMA official, Mr. Yakubu Suleiman, also commended the 6 Brigade for its strong partnership with civil authorities. He emphasized that such military-civil cooperation is vital for enhancing disaster preparedness and response in Taraba State.
