The Zamfara State Government has expressed shick over a tragic boat accident that occurred on Friday, August 29, in Nasarawar Kifi, Birnin Tudu Ward, Gummi local government council, claiming the lives of several residents.

According to preliminary reports, the overloaded boat was ferrying people fleeing ongoing bandit attacks in the region when it capsized mid-crossing.

The incident resulted in numerous fatalities, with several individuals still unaccounted for. Search and rescue efforts are currently underway, as emergency response teams coordinate with local leaders to assist survivors and locate missing persons.

In an official statement, the state government conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and promised support to all those affected.

Efforts are being coordinated with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA) to deliver relief materials and provide necessary aid.

Governor Dauda Lawal has ordered security forces to step up their presence in the area to deter further attacks and ensure the safety of residents.

The government reiterated its commitment to ending the persistent insecurity caused by banditry and pledged continued support for communities under threat.

In a statement signed by the commissioner of Information and Culture, Mahmud Muhammad Dantawasa, the state government, as stated by him, “stands firmly with our people during this period of grief and remains resolute in the fight to restore peace and normalcy”.
