Preparations have been finalised for the 5th Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum, which will be hosted by Yobe State in Maiduguri, Borno State, from January 29 to 31, 2025.
The announcement was made by Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and Secretary to the Yobe State Government, during a press briefing at the Muhammadu Indimi Learning Centre, University of Maiduguri, on Monday.
Wali, joined by members of the LOC, affirmed the state’s commitment to regional cooperation and sustainable development under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni.
“Hosting this forum highlights Yobe State’s dedication to addressing the challenges facing the Lake Chad Basin region,” Wali stated.
In collaboration with the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the LOC has ensured that all logistics, including security, health services, and a fully equipped media centre, are in place to support the event’s success.
The forum, themed “Rebuilding the Lake Chad Basin: Consolidating Gains, Commitment to Peace, Cross-Border Cooperation, Security, and Sustainable Development for a Resilient Community,” will focus on critical issues such as regional security, humanitarian efforts, and economic recovery.
“Nigeria continues to play a pivotal role in stabilisation, peacebuilding, and sustainable development within the Lake Chad Basin,” Wali remarked, urging stakeholders to strengthen their commitment to the Regional Strategy for Stabilisation, Recovery, and Resilience.
Wali expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government, and various partners for their support. Governor Mai Mala Buni also extended special thanks to Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the LCBC, the African Union, UNDP, development partners, and the media for their contributions.
“This forum provides a vital platform to forge actionable partnerships and mobilise resources aimed at transforming the Lake Chad Basin into a region of peace, stability, and opportunity,” Wali added.
The event, WorldClass247News, learnt will bring together regional leaders, policymakers, and development experts to address the pressing challenges facing the Lake Chad Basin, fostering lasting peace and resilience in the area.
