The Adamawa State Chapter of the National Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities (NAPWPD) has concluded its internal elections, with all candidates returned unopposed in what has been described as a peaceful and credible process.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Iliya Amos, commended the smooth conduct of the elections despite the economic challenges facing members.
He noted that the decision to return candidates unopposed was a reflection of the members’ satisfaction with the performance of the outgoing leadership.
“For the past four years, the leadership has made significant strides in advancing the welfare of our members. That performance earned them unanimous support for another term,” Amos stated.
Comrade Abdullahi Tongo was re-elected as Chairman of the association. Speaking to the press, Tongo expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to continue prioritizing the needs and rights of persons with physical disabilities in the state.
“My focus remains on improving the welfare of our members. I will not let down the trust you have placed in me,” he said.
Tongo also called on the Adamawa state government to provide greater opportunities for persons with disabilities, particularly those who are educated and qualified for public service roles. “We are physically challenged, not mentally incapacitated,” he emphasized.
Other elected officials include Ibrahim Idris Keachifa as Secretary, Aliyu Adama as Treasurer, and Godiya Simon as Women Leader.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for inclusivity, equal rights, and better living conditions for all persons with physical disabilities in Adamawa State.
