The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed his administration’s strategic collaboration with the Nigerian Army to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities across the state.
The governor made the pledge while receiving the Commander of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport, Nansak Danjuma Shagaya, and other senior military officers during a courtesy visit at Government House in Benin City.
Okpebholo said the partnership between the state government and security agencies—particularly the Army—was already producing measurable results in the fight against insecurity. He praised the efforts of troops of the 4 Brigade, noting that their sustained operations in forests and remote areas had significantly disrupted kidnapping networks.
“At times, you see your men spending days in the bush combing forests. You begin to wonder where they draw their strength from,” the governor said, commending the soldiers’ resilience and sacrifice.
He added that the administration deeply appreciates the gallantry of the troops, whose operations, he said, are restoring peace and rebuilding public confidence in affected communities.
The governor also assured the Army of continued support, especially in strengthening Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) established in strategic locations across the state to enhance rapid response and surveillance. He asked that his appreciation be conveyed to the Chief of Army Staff for his leadership and commitment to national security.
Addressing concerns about flooding at the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport in Isihor, Okpebholo explained that immediate intervention may be limited due to the ongoing rainy season and procurement procedures. He recalled that similar flooding issues at Ekenwan Barracks were previously addressed successfully and pledged to study the Isihor situation to determine appropriate action.
In his remarks, Major General Shagaya thanked the governor for his consistent support and collaboration, pledging the Corps’ continued backing of the administration’s development agenda. He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to sustaining peace and stability in Edo State and nationwide.
The Army commander also appealed for government intervention to address persistent flooding affecting the school and surrounding communities in the Isihor and Ugbowo axis. Beyond security, he sought collaboration in capacity building, youth engagement initiatives, driver refresher courses, catering services, and firefighting support.
The renewed commitment signals an intensified security strategy by the Edo State Government aimed at curbing kidnapping, strengthening civil-military relations, and improving safety across the state.
