A tragic auto crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed the lives of nine people and left three others seriously injured in the early hours of Monday.
The accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. in the Ayetoro area and involved a Toyota Hiace bus (UYY 165 ZY) and a stationary truck (DKA 244 XC), according to a statement by Mrs. Florence Okpe, Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command.
Okpe attributed the crash to excessive speeding and driver fatigue, which resulted in the loss of control and the bus colliding with the parked truck.
The incident involved 13 passengers—10 men and three women. Six men and three women lost their lives, while the injured victims were rushed to Famobis Hospital in Mowe for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were deposited at Idera morgue in Sagamu.
Reacting to the incident, the Ogun Sector Commander of the FRSC expressed concern over drivers who disregard speed limits and fail to take the mandatory 15-minute rest after four hours of driving.
He extended his condolences to the families of the victims and urged them to visit the Mowe Unit Command for further information.
Authorities have reiterated the need for strict adherence to road safety regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future.
