A member of the House of Representatives, Jamilu Muhammad, has officially resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing concerns over the party’s failure to provide effective opposition and internal disunity.

In a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman in Faskari Ward, Katsina State, Muhammad announced that his resignation takes immediate effect.

He expressed regret over the state of the party, stating that the PDP no longer embodies the “focused, credible, and united opposition” that Nigerians urgently need.

“The increasing lack of active and coordinated opposition from the PDP, especially when strong and principled voices are needed to check the ruling party and defend the interests of Nigerians, is deeply concerning,” he wrote.

He also referenced what he described as “visible anti-party activities” during the recent Kankara/Faskari/Sabua Federal Constituency re-run election, which he said further weakened the party’s cohesion and exposed lingering internal cracks.

Calling for the formation of a “formidable coalition” beyond party lines, Muhammad said the country needs a credible alternative built on justice, progress, and unity.

“It is time to move beyond party interests and fight for the future of our dear country,” he stated.

Muhammad expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve under the PDP and pledged to continue working with like-minded Nigerians committed to a better and more inclusive nation.
