India has reiterated its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The Chief of Mission of the Indian High Commission to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ms. Vartika Rawat, made the pledge during her visit to the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja on Thursday.
During her meeting with the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, Ms. Rawat emphasized the importance of deepening economic and trade collaboration, capacity building, and investment to address security challenges in the region.
She applauded the strong partnership between India and ECOWAS and reaffirmed India’s intention to formalize ties through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which she believes will further solidify their cooperation.
Welcoming India’s commitment, Dr. Touray, stressed the need for enhanced collaboration, expressing optimism about expanding cooperation into new areas. He emphasized that ECOWAS partnerships should prioritize regional unity and security.
“Our partners must help us preserve peace and unity, and promote development in our community. They must help us to unite and come together, rather than divide us,” Dr. Touray stated.
The visit, as observed by WorldClass247News, underscores India’s growing engagement in West Africa, as both parties seek to bolster trade, security, and diplomatic relations.
