The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reiterated his commitment to eliminating crime across Nigeria, warning criminals to abandon their unlawful activities or face the full force of the law.
The IGP made this declaration while commending police officers for their bravery and professionalism following successful operations that led to the rescue of four kidnapped victims and the neutralization of seven criminals in Abia and Nasarawa states.
The statement, issued on Sunday by Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and gun-related crimes.
“These operations reflect the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to tackling gun running, kidnapping, and all forms of criminality. We will continue to intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks and ensure the safety of all citizens,” the IGP stated.
Acting on intelligence, operatives of the Abia State Police Command tracked a group of kidnappers to a three-bedroom bungalow in Osokwa, Osisioma Local Government Area. Upon arrival, officers encountered heavy gunfire from the criminals.
“In the ensuing battle, police operatives overpowered the criminals, neutralizing six members of the syndicate and safely rescuing the victims,” the statement read. Authorities recovered two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 34 rounds of live ammunition from the hideout. The rescued individuals were immediately taken to the Police Hospital for medical attention.
On the same day, a coordinated security operation involving the Nasarawa State Police Command, the Nigerian Army, and local vigilante groups led to the neutralization of a notorious kidnapper identified as Abdullahi, alias “Honor.”
“The operation took place in Akwanga, where the suspect was intercepted near the Akwanga Central Mosque while attempting to flee on a motorcycle. In an attempt to evade arrest, Abdullahi brandished a firearm, prompting a swift response from security operatives who neutralized him,” police explained.
A search of the suspect’s belongings led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol and 12 rounds of 9mm live ammunition. One accomplice managed to escape with gunshot wounds, and a manhunt has been launched to track him down.
The recent successful operations, according to the IGP, mark a renewed push by security agencies to rid communities of violent criminals and reinforce public confidence in law enforcement.
