Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has launched a peace initiative in response to recent violent clashes between farmers and herders in Darazo Local Government Area.
In a swift move to de-escalate tensions and restore normalcy, Governor Mohammed led a high-powered delegation comprising the Commissioner of Police, the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), traditional rulers, and other senior security officials to the area, where he presided over a stakeholders’ peace meeting with community leaders and affected residents.
During the engagement, the governor acknowledged the longstanding and complex nature of the conflict but reaffirmed his administration’s determination to find lasting solutions. He noted that the state government had previously allocated 2,500 hectares of land each in Sade and Darazo forest reserves for farming purposes, aimed at easing land-related disputes.
Condemning the recent outbreak of violence, Governor Mohammed appealed for calm and urged all parties to exercise restraint. He emphasized the need for continued dialogue and promised to strengthen mediation efforts while introducing additional measures to ensure peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.
“Peace and security are collective responsibilities,” the governor stated, calling on community leaders, residents, and government agencies to collaborate in promoting lasting harmony.
The Trumpet gathered that the intervention is part of a wider strategy by the Bauchi State Government to curb communal unrest and reinforce inter-group cohesion across the state.
