The Gombe State Government has taken a significant step toward improving child welfare, health, and education by signing the 2025-2027 UNICEF Workplan.
The agreement, as observed by the WorldClass247News, underscores the state’s commitment to advancing key social services for children and vulnerable populations.
The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Salihu Baba Alkali, signed the workplan on behalf of the government, acting on the directive of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
According to Alkali, the three-year harmonized plan, developed in collaboration with UNICEF, outlines crucial interventions to boost child protection, healthcare, and education in the state.
The total budget for the initiative is set at $4,103,300, with $1,449,497 already secured, while efforts are ongoing to mobilize over $2 million in additional funding.
Highlighting past achievements through UNICEF’s partnership, Alkali emphasized that the new workplan will focus on health, social policy, child protection, and behavioral change initiatives to ensure better outcomes for children.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr. Nuzhat Rafique, UNICEF’s Chief of Field Office in Bauchi, praised Governor Yahaya’s leadership and reaffirmed UNICEF’s commitment to reaching every child in the state.
Special Adviser on Donor Partner Coordination, Dr. Isiaku Babayo, also commended UNICEF’s contributions to health, education, and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programs in Gombe.
He expressed optimism about the workplan’s implementation and reiterated the state government’s dedication to strengthening its collaboration with UNICEF.
With the formalization of the workplan, stakeholders are hopeful that the initiative will bring lasting improvements to the lives of children and vulnerable communities in Gombe State.
