Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Computerized Vehicle Inspection Centre (CVIC) in Yola, aimed at enhancing vehicular safety and addressing environmental concerns in the state.
The facility, the first of its kind in the Northeast region, is equipped with modern technology to scientifically assess the roadworthiness of vehicles, thereby eliminating human error and ensuring strict compliance with safety standards.
Governor Fintiri, who was represented by his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, commended Temple SYC Inspection Limited for its private sector partnership in executing the project.
According to Professor Farauta, the centre is expected to significantly reduce the annual loss of lives and property resulting from preventable road accidents often caused by poorly maintained vehicles.
She urged commercial drivers, private vehicle owners, and transport unions to embrace the facility as part of efforts to improve road safety across the state.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Transportation, Wunfe Anthony, described the new centre as a milestone in innovation, safety, and smart transport governance. She praised Governor Fintiri’s visionary leadership, which she said made the project a reality.
Anthony acknowledged existing challenges in the state’s transport sector, including road safety issues, vehicle standards, and commuter security.
She noted that the CVIC would help reduce road accidents, promote environmental sustainability, and enhance data-driven planning and policymaking in the transportation sector.
The commissioner also announced plans by the state government to establish three additional computerized vehicle inspection centres in Gombi, Mubi, and Ganye to expand the initiative’s reach.
Earlier, Engineer Jibrin Chindo, Chief Operating Officer of Drivers and Vehicle Testing Services (DVTS), led the Deputy Governor on a tour of the facility.
The tour showcased advanced testing systems for brakes, emissions, lighting, tyres, axles, wheels, and supplementary inspections for passenger vehicles.
