The Federal Government has initiated plans to rescue and repatriate a group of Nigerian workers stranded in the Central African Republic, following public outcry triggered by a viral video showing the distressed individuals.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed this in a statement on Friday, confirming that the affected Nigerians were discovered in the Bambari region, located about 850 kilometres from the capital city, Bangui.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Nigerian Mission in the Central African Republic has successfully established contact with the stranded individuals.
Ebienfa added that the Embassy of Nigeria in Bangui is working closely with local authorities to ensure the safety and welfare of the affected citizens, as well as facilitate their immediate repatriation to Nigeria.
The government urged the public to remain calm, assuring that all necessary steps are being taken to bring the stranded Nigerians back home safely.
