The Benue State Government has warned individuals and groups involved in the destruction, vandalism and defacement of public utilities and billboards across the state to desist or face prosecution.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation,Chief Solomon Iorpev, stated this in a statement issued on Monday, September 14, 2026, saying the government had commenced the arrest and prosecution of suspected offenders.
According to him, the destruction of public utilities, billboards and other infrastructure had resulted in the loss of valuable public and private investments and would no longer be tolerated.
Iorpev said security agencies had been directed to intensify surveillance and apprehend anyone found vandalising or destroying public and private infrastructure.
He disclosed that several suspects had already been arrested and were being held in police custody, adding that they would soon be arraigned before a court to answer for their alleged actions.
The commissioner stressed that the government would prosecute offenders to the fullest extent of the law, regardless of their political, social or personal affiliations.
He said there would be no “sacred cows” in the enforcement of the directive, warning that no individual or group would be allowed to destroy public property with impunity.
“The Benue State Government will not fold its arms while public and private property is destroyed by irresponsible elements,” Iorpev said.
He urged residents to immediately report anyone found engaging in acts of vandalism to the nearest security agency.
The commissioner described the protection of public infrastructure as a collective responsibility and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting lives, property and infrastructure across the state.
