Two suspected kidnappers were neutralized during a joint operation by the Delta State Police Command and local vigilante groups on Wednesday, following a gun battle in Boji Boji Owa, located in the Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, the operation was launched around 11 a.m. after police received credible intelligence about the presence of suspected kidnappers in a nearby forest within the community.
The suspects reportedly opened fire when confronted by security operatives, prompting a shootout. The two men were fatally wounded during the exchange and were later confirmed dead.
Security personnel recovered one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and forty rounds of 7.62mm ammunition from the scene.
A manhunt has been launched to apprehend other members of the gang who are believed to have fled the area during the operation.
