The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the assassination of Mr. Ezekiel Imole Adeniran, Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo.
His lifeless body was discovered in his residence in Ondo town on the morning of Thursday, July 17, 2025, sending shockwaves through the university community.
Spokesperson for the state police command, Olayinka Ayanlade, described the incident as a clear case of murder, reported to the Fanibi Police Division. “Preliminary intelligence indicates that it was an assassination.
We received reports that two men emerged from a nearby bush and allegedly forced a substance into the mouth of another individual. We are currently investigating the motive and working to identify the perpetrators,” he said.
Ayanlade urged members of the public with any useful information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
In a statement issued by the institution’s Head of Media and Protocol, Mr. Isaac Oluyi, UNIMED expressed profound grief over the sudden loss of its registrar. “The news is devastating. Mr. Adeniran was still at his duty post on Monday, July 14, 2025. The cause of death is yet to be officially determined,” the statement noted.
Mr. Adeniran, who took office as UNIMED’s third substantive Registrar on January 6, 2025, was described as a dedicated administrator whose brief tenure left a lasting impact. His death marks a tragic and deeply unsettling moment for the university and wider Ondo community.
