The 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) has commenced a two-week multi-agency capacity-building training programme aimed at boosting the effectiveness and readiness of security operatives across Taraba State.
The programme, which was flagged off on Monday in Jalingo, focuses on key operational areas including weapon handling, basic first aid, advanced driving, and vehicle maintenance. It is part of ongoing efforts to improve the preparedness and adaptability of security agencies in the face of mounting regional threats.
Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, who officially inaugurated the exercise, described the initiative as a timely and strategic move to fortify the state’s security framework. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Gebon T. Kataps, the governor stressed the importance of collaboration and continuous professional development among security personnel.
“This training marks a crucial step towards enhancing the security architecture of our beloved state. It underscores the importance of preparedness, collaboration, and continuous learning among our security agencies,” Governor Kefas stated.
He commended the leadership of Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, for his vision and commitment in initiating the programme. Governor Kefas also reiterated the state government’s continued support for security agencies, noting that joint efforts remain essential in addressing both current and emerging security challenges.
Speaking at the event, Brigadier General Uwa explained that the programme aligns with the broader vision of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), which emphasizes transforming the Nigerian Army into a well-motivated and combat-ready force capable of operating effectively within a joint and multi-agency environment.
“This training is designed to enhance operational readiness by focusing on key areas such as weapon handling, basic first aid, and advanced driving and maintenance skills. These competencies are essential in improving our effectiveness, responsiveness, and survivability in the field,” he said.
He further noted that the ability to administer first aid or maintain a vehicle during missions could mean the difference between success and failure, or even life and death. Brigadier General Uwa expressed deep appreciation to the state government for its consistent support, especially the donation of operational vehicles by Governor Kefas.
“I remain sincerely grateful to the Executive Governor for his magnanimity. I also extend my appreciation to the SGS and other state officials who have played supportive roles in helping us meet our mandate,” he added.
The Brigade Commander also lauded the synergy among various security agencies in the state, stating that such collaboration has significantly contributed to operational successes.
Participants in the programme include personnel from multiple security and paramilitary agencies, and the initiative is expected to enhance inter-agency cooperation while equipping operatives with the tools needed to respond effectively to evolving threats within and beyond Taraba State.
