The ongoing registration and screening exercise for orphans spread across the 23 local government councils of Sokoto State, has entered its second day.
Sponsored by the Senator representing Sokoto northern Senatorial district, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, officials overseeing the initiative, were noticed to have already visited Wamakko local government council, where the process was successfully completed.
As part of the plan, both Wamakko and Kware local government areas were merged for the exercise, following directives from the initiator, who was the former governor of Sokoto State,
In a press statement issued out to media men on Saturday by the senator’s Special Advisers on Media and Publicity, Bashir Abubakar, each ward, according to the statement, is expected to register 20 orphans in preparation for a Special Sallah Package to be distributed by the Senator.
Council chairman of Kware, Attahiru Ruggar Giwa, and his counterpart from Wamakko local government council, Ahmad Umar Dundaye, applauded the initiative, describing it as a commendable act of philanthropy.
They urged other wealthy individuals to tread the path of Sen. Wamakko by supporting the less privileged.
The Programme Coordinator, Alhaji Bashar Muhammad, confirmed that the exercise has been running smoothly, with positive feedback from various community members.
Supporting the position of Mohammad, his co-coordinator, Alhaji Almustapha Abubakar Alkali, acknowledged the widespread appreciation for the initiative.
The screening exercise continued on Thursday in Sokoto North, Sokoto South, Wamakko, and Kware, while on Friday, officials covered Gudu, Tangaza, Binji, and Silame LGAs.
The team, is said to have concluded plans to storm Yabo and Shagari LGAs on Saturday, with the program concluding on Tuesday, February 18, at Gwadabawa LGA.
