The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has constituted a seven-member Caretaker Committee to manage the affairs of the party in Nigeria’s South-South region.
The decision, reached at the party’s 602nd NWC meeting, is in line with the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).
According to a statement signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the committee will serve for an initial period of three months or until a new Zonal Executive Committee is elected.
The newly appointed South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee is chaired by a Emma Ogidi. Other members include Nicholas Ayuwa, Barrister Godwin Akpan Udonta, Mrs. Bekewei Ashanti, Idehen Ebomwonyi, Dame Vivian Ahanmisi, and Chief Damiete Herbert-Mille, who will serve as Secretary.
The NWC urged all party members in the zone to cooperate with the committee and continue to work in unity for the progress of the party. It also notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), media organizations, and security agencies of the development.
The formation of the caretaker committee, was said to be part of efforts to strengthen the PDP’s organizational structure and ensure effective coordination in the South-South zone ahead of future political engagements.
