The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has officially launched its Safeguard Commission, reinforcing its commitment to promoting a safe and harassment-free sporting environment in alignment with the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) global standards.
The establishment of the commission, aa observed by WorldClass247News sport desk, follows the IOC’s long-standing initiative, which has been in place since 2004, to foster safety in sports.
As part of the Olympic Movement, the NOC according to the statement, is dedicated to upholding these principles and ensuring Nigerian athletes and their entourage including coaches and officials—are protected from all forms of harassment, abuse, and discrimination.
The newly formed commission, our sport desk gathered that, it will focus on preventing harassment, abuse, and discrimination in sports.
Other functions to be executed by the commission, includes,encouraging a culture of reporting and transparent investigations, and collaborating with stakeholders to develop and implement effective safeguarding policies.
Speaking on the development, NOC President, Engineer Habu Ahmed Gunel, emphasized the organization’s dedication to athlete welfare.
“The Nigeria Olympic Committee is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all athletes and stakeholders. The inauguration of the Safeguard Commission marks an important step toward achieving this goal,” he stated.
The commission comprises seven certified Safeguarding, sports officer, who WorldClass247News learnt, have completed the IOC International Course on Safeguarding.
