The National Chairperson of the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF), Princess Huwaila Ibrahim Muhammad, has donated a one-year subscription of the Nigeria Weekly Law Reports worth N300,000 to Barr. Luis Ojoho Ishaya, a female lawyer in Taraba State who recently established her own law firm.
Speaking on behalf of the National Chairperson during the presentation at the NBA House in Jalingo, Barr. Nana Ganki Hassan, the Taraba State Women Lead of the NBAWF, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the NBAWF’s commitment to supporting female lawyers who take bold steps in their professional journey.
She noted that the support aims to enhance legal research, boost productivity, and encourage women to break barriers in a traditionally male-dominated profession.
“This generous donation from our national chairperson, Princess Huwaila Ibrahim Muhammad, is a clear demonstration of her commitment to empowering female lawyers who have shown courage and determination in setting up their own law firms,” Hassan stated.
“It is uncommon in Nigeria to see female lawyers establishing law firms, which is why our national chairperson has made it a priority to support and mentor those who do.
“For a long time, legal practice has been perceived as a profession dominated by men, with limited recognition of women’s contributions. The NBA Women Forum was established to change this narrative by mentoring and empowering female lawyers to thrive and compete effectively.”
She further commended Princess Huwaila Ibrahim Muhammad for funding the N300,000 subscription, describing it as a remarkable investment in the legal profession and a call to action for other women in the field.
In his remarks, Barr. Martin Milkman, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Taraba State chapter, lauded the NBAWF National Chairperson for the initiative, stating that such gestures will encourage more female lawyers to step up and excel in their careers.
Meanwhile, Barr. Luis Ojoho Ishaya, while receiving the law reports, expressed deep appreciation for the support, describing it as a significant morale booster in her pursuit of excellence in legal practice.
She thanked Princess Huwaila Ibrahim Muhammad and the NBAWF for the kind gesture and pledged to maximize the opportunity by not only enhancing her legal research but also mentoring young female lawyers to achieve professional growth.
