The House of Representatives has passed the 2025 Appropriation Bill, approving a total budget of N54.99 trillion for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025.
The budget approval followed an extensive review by the House Committee on Appropriation led by Abubakar Kabir Abubakar.
Lawmakers examined the budget after thorough deliberations, including a public hearing which gathered input from Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), civil society organizations, and industry leaders.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, who presided over the session, led the House through a detailed evaluation of the budgetary allocations, marking a crucial step in finalizing Nigeria’s financial plan for 2025.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, initially proposed a N49.7 trillion budget but later revised the figure to N54.2 trillion, citing additional revenue generated by key government agencies.
The 2025 budget represents a 91.04 percent increase from the 2024 budget of N28.77 trillion. In July 2024, the National Assembly also approved a N6.2 trillion supplementary budget, bringing the total 2024 expenditure to N34.97 trillion.
During his budget presentation before a joint session of the National Assembly, President Tinubu described the 2025 fiscal plan as the “Budget of Restoration, aimed at securing peace, rebuilding prosperity, and driving economic growth.
