The Benue State Government has dismissed as false and misleading a report published by an online newspaper alleging that governor Hyacinth Alia is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) amid internal party tensions in the state.
In a press statement released on Sunday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, the report was described as “fake news” and a product of “yellow journalism,” intended to mislead the public and create unnecessary political tension.
Kula emphasized that Governor Alia remains firmly committed to the APC and continues to play an active role in its growth both within Benue State and nationally.
He pointed to the Governor’s recent participation in key party events, including the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the APC’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, as clear evidence of his loyalty.
“It is laughable and baseless to suggest that Governor Alia would consider leaving the very party he is strengthening in Benue,” the statement read. “His visible presence at both the zonal and national endorsement events held at the Presidential Villa directly contradicts the claims of a rift with the Presidency.”
The statement further clarified that there is no crisis within the APC in Benue State. According to Kula, the party under the leadership of Hon. Benjamin Omale maintains a “super working relationship” with the Governor and has been fulfilling its duties effectively, most recently showcased at the APC Summit in Abuja.
Criticizing the publication for spreading misinformation, the statement called on the public to disregard the report and seek information from credible sources. It reiterated that Governor Alia has no intention of defecting from the APC, particularly at a time when Benue State stands to gain from its alignment with the Tinubu-led federal government.
“The Governor remains committed to delivering good governance to the people of Benue under the platform of the APC, which they elected him on,” the statement concluded.
