The Concerned PDP Youth of Gombe State have called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from active political contests and assume an advisory role within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to aid in repositioning the party for future success.
Speaking at a press conference in Gombe on Thursday, the Chairman of the group, Jamilu Adamu, commended Atiku for his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s democracy and the PDP, describing him as a “respected statesman with a notable legacy.”
Adamu said the group believes Atiku’s vast political experience would be better utilized in mentoring and supporting younger members of the party, rather than continuing to contest for power.
“We believe that His Excellency Atiku Abubakar’s experience and wisdom can still benefit the PDP if channelled into mentoring and supporting emerging leaders,” he said.
He emphasized that the appeal was not a criticism of Atiku, but rather a strategic suggestion aimed at reviving the PDP through generational renewal.
“The PDP must embrace fresh perspectives and give younger voices a central role in shaping party decisions,” Adamu stated, while urging the party’s leadership to provide more opportunities for youth participation and leadership development.
While reaffirming their commitment to the PDP, the group also called on stakeholders at all levels to support efforts aimed at building a more inclusive, united, and dynamic opposition party capable of tackling Nigeria’s current challenges.
“We are hopeful that our message will be received in the spirit of progress and dialogue,” Adamu added.
As of the time of filing this report, the statement, as noticed by WorldClass247News, has begun to generate reactions within PDP circles and among political analysts, reigniting discussions on the future leadership structure of the party and the broader question of generational inclusion in Nigerian politics.
