The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has commended the Sokoto State Government for its unwavering support for the FRSC, stating that the partnership has significantly contributed to improved road safety in the state.
He made this remark while addressing a combined parade of personnel from the Sokoto Zonal Command, Sector Command, Special Marshals, and members of the Road Safety Club during his familiarization tour of the state.
He described the relationship between the FRSC and the Sokoto state government as exemplary, noting that the ongoing road construction and rehabilitation efforts have helped curb route violations and reduce road traffic crashes.
He also appreciated the state government’s donation of patrol vehicle to the sector command, calling it a testament to governor Ahmed Aliyu’s commitment to road safety
Acknowledging the commitments and sacrifices of FRSC personnel, the Corps Marshal praised their efforts during the 2024 end-of-year special patrol.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to staff welfare, capacity development, and regular promotion exercises. He assured officers that excellence would be rewarded while indiscipline would not be tolerated
Corps Marshal Mohammed urged personnel to uphold professionalism and integrity, emphasizing accountability in their duties. Recalling his early days as a young officer in Sokoto, he encouraged staff to build strong legacies and adhere to due process in service delivery.
He also expressed concerns over the persistent issue of overloading and mix-loading by some drivers in the state, warning that such reckless behavior has led to avoidable road fatalities.
Additionally, he condemned the dangerous practice of fuel scooping at crash sites, urging stakeholders and the public to work together in sensitizing Nigerians about the risks associated with tanker accidents.
The Corps Marshal acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support in providing logistics to enhance the FRSC’s operational efficiency. He assured that no effort would be spared in reinvigorating the Corps for improved service delivery.
As part of his engagements in Sokoto, Corps Marshal Mohammed addressed stakeholders and members of the media, emphasizing that road safety management is a shared responsibility. His two-day visit continues on Thursday with scheduled meetings with the State Governor and the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Saad Abubakar III.
