The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, endorsing both leaders as the party’s sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was made during a high-powered APC Stakeholders Meeting held at the State Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, moved the motion, hailing President Tinubu’s economic reforms and infrastructural strides, including the recent $1 billion approval for the resuscitation of Warri Port. The motion was seconded by former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, and was unanimously adopted.

Keyamo lauded Tinubu’s decision to remove fuel subsidy, describing it as a bold move that freed up funds for critical infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar coastal road and the Lagos Airport upgrade.

“President Tinubu has shown prudent and visionary leadership,” Keyamo said. “And here in Delta, Governor Oborevwori is delivering massive infrastructural development. Both deserve our full support.”

Speaking after the endorsement, Governor Oborevwori thanked the party for its confidence in his administration and President Tinubu. He reaffirmed his commitment to delivering on his development agenda, citing ongoing projects like the ₦59 billion Uromi Junction Flyover and the ₦39 billion Ughelli Flyover.

“I’m grateful for your trust and for naming us as your sole candidates in 2027,” Oborevwori said. “APC is growing stronger, and more governors will join us by November.”

He also issued a warning to party members who he claimed did not support the APC during previous elections but have benefited from the party’s success.

“We know those who were not loyal. Next time, only true commitment will be rewarded—not hypocrisy,” the governor declared.

Former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, described the April 28, 2025 mass defection into APC as a political turning point for Delta. He said the party was now more united and better positioned for electoral victory in 2027.

“I can confidently say that joining the APC was the right step. The party is stronger and ready for 2027,” Okowa said.

APC State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, praised Oborevwori’s performance, declaring that the governor’s track record had made any opposition within the party futile, stating that. “Anyone thinking of contesting against him will meet a brick wall.”

From the three senatorial districts, party leaders reaffirmed their support. Chief Paulinus Akpeki (Delta Central), Chief Adizue Eluaka (Delta North), and Austin Oribioye (Delta South) all emphasized unity and readiness for electoral victory.

National Assembly members including Senators Ede Dafinone, Ned Nwoko, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, and Hon. Nicholas Mutu declared that “there is no vacancy till 2031,” pledging continued support for the APC’s leadership.

Prominent APC leaders such as Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, Senators Peter Nwaoboshi, and James Manager echoed that there was “no opposition to Oborevwori in 2027,” promising overwhelming votes in his favor.

ALGON representative, Hon. Dagidi Andaye, assured that all 25 council chairmen were solidly behind the Governor and the party. Meanwhile, Hon. Stella Okotete, a former National Women Leader, called for increased inclusion of women, noting their electoral significance.

Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, pledged the full support of the legislature to the governor’s development goals.
