In a press statement released today, the Edo State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating plans to deploy armed thugs disguised in PDP-branded attire to carry out sporadic shootings aimed at inciting chaos and unrest in the state.
The PDP, through its Publicity Secretary, Chris Osa Nehikhare, strongly dissociated itself from the alleged plans, describing the move as a deliberate attempt by the APC to tarnish the image of the party while destabilizing the state.
“We condemn, in the strongest terms, the violent behavior of the APC. This is yet another clandestine effort to stir unrest and undermine our nascent democracy,” the statement read.
The PDP called on security agencies to take urgent action to investigate the allegations, apprehend those responsible, and ensure justice is served.
The party also urged the APC to respect democratic principles and refrain from actions that could jeopardize peace and governance in Edo State.
Additionally, the PDP appealed to civil society organizations, the international community, and all concerned stakeholders to speak out against what it described as “divisive and destructive tactics” by the APC.
The party emphasized the need to safeguard democracy, uphold the rule of law, and ensure the safety of Edo State residents.
The APC, at the time of filing this report, has yet to respond to the allegations as of the time of this report.
