The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic loss of lives in custody in Niger State.
The Commandant General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, joined the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and other heads of agencies under the ministry on a condolence visit to Minna, where they commiserated with Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, the government and people of Niger State.
The delegation was received by Governor Bago, who expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the visit and the measures being taken to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The governor also acknowledged the proactive steps already taken by the NSCDC, including the deployment of a high-level team to support the ongoing investigation.
During the visit, the Federal Government delegation conveyed its condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Niger State, while receiving additional perspectives from the state government on the incident.
The NSCDC, in a statement signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commandant of Corps Babawale Afolabi, said the Corps remained committed to a thorough and conclusive investigation.
According to the statement, the Corps would provide the necessary institutional support to ensure that all relevant circumstances surrounding the incident are properly established.
It stressed that the investigation would be conducted in line with due process, extant laws and regulations.
The Corps further stated that where any breach of duty or responsibility was established, appropriate action would be taken in accordance with the law and established procedures.
