The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), has repatriated nine trafficked children from Calabar, Cross River State, and handed them over to the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu.
During the handover ceremony at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Idris expressed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the perpetrators of such crimes are identified and prosecuted.
He emphasized that the state would not tolerate any form of illegality that endangers its children.
“My administration will not condone unpatriotic elements trafficking innocent children from Kebbi to other parts of the country. The perpetrators must be brought to justice,” the governor said.
He also urged parents to cherish and take responsibility for the upbringing of their children, encouraging them to nurture their children into good citizens.
Mas’ud Kaura, NAPTIP Commander in Kebbi State, revealed that the children had been trafficked from Kebbi to Calabar through Zamfara State.

“The trafficker was the mastermind behind smuggling the children first to Zamfara and then to Calabar in Cross River State,” Kaura stated.
He assured that further arrests had been made and that the culprits would face legal action upon the completion of the investigation.
Kaura also disclosed plans for a statewide sensitization campaign to educate parents about the dangers of child trafficking and labor.
He emphasized that trafficking is a serious crime that violates national laws and pledged NAPTIP’s commitment to preventing such incidents in the future.
