Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Adamawa State Command, have rescued two children, aged one and two years, who were allegedly abandoned in an uncompleted building at Wuro Hausa in Yola South Local Government Area.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Nyako Amidu Baba, confirmed the development during a press briefing with journalists in Yola.
He said the children were discovered in the middle of the night crying helplessly after they were reportedly abandoned by their mother. The situation, according to him, was first noticed by a concerned resident who raised an alarm, prompting the immediate intervention of NSCDC operatives.
Following the rescue, Nyako stated that the minors have been taken into protective custody, where they are currently receiving care while efforts continue to trace and identify their parents.
He explained that preliminary investigations suggest the children’s mother may have abandoned them due to an inability to cater for their welfare. However, he emphasized that authorities are still investigating to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
The NSCDC spokesperson further disclosed that the State Commandant, Commandant Idris D. Bande, has ordered intensified efforts to locate the parents and ensure the safe reunification of the children with their family.
Commandant Bande also called on residents of Adamawa State to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements within their communities to security agencies. He stressed that timely information from the public remains critical in preventing crime and enhancing security.
The Corps reiterated its commitment to the protection of vulnerable persons, particularly children, and assured that it will continue to uphold its mandate of safeguarding lives and property across the state.
