The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned an alleged assassination attempt on its Anambra governorship candidate, Chief Jude Ezenwafor, by unidentified gunmen in Abuja.
According to a statement released on Sunday by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the attack occurred while Ezenwafor was returning from an appointment in the nation’s capital.
The party described the incident as a “desperate and cowardly” move by forces unsettled by the rising popularity of its candidate ahead of the November 8, 2025 election in Anambra State.
The PDP claimed that the failed assassination attempt is part of a broader scheme by unnamed “anti-democratic elements” in the state, who are allegedly plotting to launch a smear campaign against Ezenwafor after the attack failed.
“This attack is another grim reminder of the alarming state of insecurity across the country under the inept and insensitive administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” the statement read. “But let it be known that those behind this plot have failed, and they will continue to fail.”
The party called on the Inspector General of Police to immediately launch an investigation, arrest the perpetrators, and increase security around the PDP candidate.
Despite the attack, the PDP urged Ezenwafor to remain undeterred, assuring him of the party’s full support. It also reiterated its confidence in his candidacy, stating that Anambra remains a PDP stronghold committed to electing a people-oriented and result-driven administration.
“The will of the people of Anambra cannot be broken by violence, propaganda, or intimidation,” the statement concluded.
