Flight Lieutenant Kafayat Omolara Sanni, Nigeria’s first female fighter pilot, has added another historic milestone to her trailblazing career by clinching two top honours at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) in Accra.
At the College’s graduation ceremony held on June 20, Flt Lt Sanni was announced as the Best Allied Student and also received the Best Assistant Commandant Paper award. The event was attended by senior military officials and dignitaries from across the African continent.
Sanni first rose to national prominence in 2019 when she became the first female combat fighter pilot in Nigerian Air Force (NAF) history after completing her training in the United States.
Since then, she has flown missions with the Alpha Jet and served as an instructor on the Super Mushshak, where she has mentored a new generation of NAF pilots.
Her latest achievement at GAFCSC not only highlights her personal commitment to excellence and resilience but also reflects Nigeria’s expanding influence in regional defence cooperation and the ongoing push for gender inclusion within the military.
The Nigerian Air Force has described her feat as a testament to the service’s continued investment in professional development and human capital under the leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar.
Flt Lt Sanni’s success is being hailed as a symbol of both national pride and progress in advancing the role of women in the armed forces.
