The Nigerian Army, through its 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), has commissioned a new Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, as part of efforts to reinforce security operations and consolidate recent gains in the region.
The base was officially inaugurated on Wednesday by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, who described the establishment of the FOB as a strategic move to enhance the Army’s operational reach and effectiveness in Southern Taraba.
Speaking during the ceremony, Brigadier General Uwa said the inauguration signals the military’s renewed focus on stabilizing the area and responding more effectively to emerging security threats.
While addressing troops at the new base, the commander charged them to uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, and vigilance. He also urged them to protect military assets and maintain a strong presence across their area of responsibility to deter criminal activities.
“The troops must dominate their area of responsibility and ensure that bandits, terrorists, and other criminal elements are denied any freedom of action,” Uwa stated.
Reaffirming the Army’s commitment to restoring peace and order in the state, he assured residents of the military’s unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Taraba and beyond.
To demonstrate operational readiness and strengthen community relations, the Brigade Commander led a confidence-building patrol through Wukari town and nearby communities shortly after the commissioning. The patrol, he noted, was designed to boost public confidence and foster cooperation between civilians and the military.
According to the Brigade, the establishment of the Wukari FOB is part of a broader national strategy to stabilize conflict-prone areas and improve military responsiveness.
The facility, The Guardian gathered, is expected to enhance rapid response to threats, improve intelligence operations, and deepen civil-military cooperation in the region.
