The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed a warehouse in Kaduna after uncovering expired food and cosmetic products worth N75 million.
The warehouse, identified as Amanat.com, is situated on PP2A Bayajidda Street, near Kano Road and New Ogbomosho Road in Kaduna.
Shaba Muhammed, NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that the operation was prompted by a tip-off from a concerned citizen.
According to Muhammed, surveillance conducted by NAFDAC’s investigation team revealed a large quantity of expired goods, including biscuits, dairy milk, vegetable oil, soft drinks, and detergents.
During the raid, workers were caught transferring expired biscuits from their original packaging into sacks, presumably to repackage and sell the substandard products.
The managing director of the warehouse has been arrested for questioning, and Muhammed assured that regulatory penalties would be enforced after the investigation is concluded.
“This action serves as a strong warning to others engaging in such illegal practices,” Muhammed said.
He also urged Nigerians to exercise caution when purchasing regulated products and to report any suspicious items to the nearest NAFDAC office.
NAFDAC reiterated its commitment to ensuring public health and safety while encouraging citizens to report fraudulent activities to the agency.
