The Nigeria Police Force says it has rescued 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were abducted in Imo State on October 1, 2026.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, the victims were rescued on Wednesday, at Amakohia Ubi Village in Imo State, following sustained search-and-rescue operations conducted by the police in collaboration with other security agencies.
Iniedu said the rescued prospective corps members had been taken for medical assessment and were receiving the necessary care.
The police spokesperson said security agencies were continuing efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the abduction.
He added that the police and other security agencies were sustaining coordinated operations aimed at bringing all persons found culpable to justice.
The Nigeria Police Force, according to Iniedu, also expressed appreciation to members of the public for their cooperation and support during the search-and-rescue operation.
Iniedu said the Force remained committed to protecting lives and property, responding promptly to security threats and strengthening collaboration with sister security agencies.
