In a bid to restore education in communities affected by insurgency, the Borno State Government has commissioned two newly established schools in Konduga Local Government Area.
The schools—Dalori Junior Secondary School and the rehabilitated Kellumuri Community School—were inaugurated on Thursday in a ceremony led by the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, who represented Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
Speaking at the event, Wakilbe said the initiative reflects Governor Zulum’s ongoing commitment to revamping the education sector and rebuilding critical infrastructure across the state.
“These projects are in line with Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s transformation of the education sector, especially towards rebuilding strides in the state,” he stated.
Dalori Junior Secondary School was constructed through the World Bank-supported AGILE (Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment) programme. It features 10 classrooms, a solar power system, and modern sanitation facilities, and is part of a broader plan to build 35 junior secondary schools across the state.
Kellumuri Community School, on the other hand, was reconstructed by the Ministry of Education on the ruins of a previously destroyed site. The rehabilitated facility includes four blocks with eight classrooms, a perimeter fence, and a police post to enhance security.
The school will serve both primary and junior secondary students, with a provision for transition to senior secondary education in Bama.
To mark the commissioning, the Ministry distributed 250 school bags, books, and learning materials, while a symbolic enrolment exercise was held to encourage student registration.
Wakilbe urged traditional leaders and community stakeholders to promote school enrolment, especially for girls, leveraging the improved infrastructure.
The Education Secretary of Konduga LGA, Bamala Galti, pledged the immediate deployment of teachers and commencement of academic activities, reaffirming the local government’s full support for the initiative.
The commissioning, as gathered by WorldClass247News, marks another step in Borno State’s ongoing efforts to rebuild education in areas recovering from years of conflict.
