The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the postponement of its zonal congresses in the North Central, South South, and South West regions, which were originally slated to hold on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
In a statement issued, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party said the decision was made in solidarity with the Governor and people of Plateau State following recent tragic killings in the state.
The postponement also aims to allow PDP governors in the affected zones to attend the PDP Governors’ Forum meeting scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Sunday, April 13, and Monday, April 14.
As part of the rescheduling, the South West Zonal Congress will now hold on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. New dates for the North Central and South South congresses will be announced later.
Meanwhile, the party has directed the Chief Emmanuel Ogidi-led South South Zonal Caretaker Committee to continue overseeing party affairs in the region in line with the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) until a new executive is elected.
The NWC called on party leaders, stakeholders, members, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, the media, and the general public to take note of the changes and act accordingly.
