In a major healthcare intervention, the Sokoto State Government has distributed essential drugs and maternal delivery kits worth N1.66 billion to 244 primary health centersacross the state’s 23 local government councils.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu, while launching the initiative, emphasized the importance of ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare, particularly for women, children , and vulnerable groups.
“We have spent ₦1.66 billion on procuring essential drugs, including anti-helminthic and hem tonic drugs, under-five children’s medications, maternal health drugs, misoprostol, chlorhexidine gel, and Mama delivery kits,” Governor Aliyu stated.
He explained that the procurement was based on requests from local government councils reflecting his administration’s commitment to sustaining free healthcare services in rural communities.
The initiative also builds on the free medical care programme introduced by former governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, which provides free medical services for pregnant women, children, and the elderly.
Governor Aliyu issued a strong warning against the diversion of the drugs, instructing local government chairmen and health officials to ensure fair distribution.
“Any local government chairman or health official caught diverting these drugs will face severe consequences. The state government will not tolerate any act of sabotage,” he warned, urging security agencies to monitor distribution closely.
