The Oyo State Government has inaugurated a Task Force under the Maternal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII) as part of renewed efforts to curb maternal and infant deaths across the state.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Molete Primary Health Centre in Ibadan, also featured the official presentation of the implementation strategy designed to reduce maternal and infant mortality.
Speaking at the event, Governor Seyi Makinde, represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Chief Ajibola Lawal, described MAMII as a strategic call to action aimed at protecting mothers, safeguarding newborns, and strengthening the state’s healthcare system.
Makinde reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upgrading health facilities, empowering healthcare workers, and ensuring that every pregnant woman and newborn receives quality healthcare in the state.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetumobi, who inaugurated the task force, charged members to work diligently and collaboratively to achieve significant reductions in maternal and infant deaths.
Oyo State MAMII Coordinator, Dr. Oluwatunmise Adeagbo, and the National Coordinator of the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAP), Dr. Muntaga Sodiq-Umar represented by Omoruyi Iyahen presented the MAMII Action Plan and Activation Plaque, expressing confidence that the team would close existing gaps in maternal health service delivery through strong state and national partnerships.
In their goodwill messages, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja (represented by Chief Abiola Arulogun), the Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Muhideen Olatunji, and the Chairman of the Oyo State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Akin Fagbemi (represented by Dr. Tunde Aremu), pledged their commitment to supporting the government’s efforts to reduce maternal and infant mortality.
The MAMII Task Force is expected to drive evidence-based interventions, improve access to healthcare services, and strengthen maternal and child health systems across Oyo State.
