In a significant step toward improving the welfare of educators and reviving rural education, governor Babagana Umara Zulum has commissioned a 72-unit housing complex for teachers in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The housing project, unveiled during a commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, features 24 two-bedroom semi-detached units and 48 three-bedroom apartments built across eight three-storey blocks.
Each unit is furnished with basic amenities, designed to provide a safe and comfortable living environment for teachers and their families.
Governor Zulum, while presenting keys to the beneficiaries, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving education, particularly in areas impacted by over a decade of insurgency.
“We consider the welfare of teachers as fundamental to revitalizing education in Borno. Providing decent and secured housing is one of our administration’s key priorities,” the governor stated.
The beneficiaries of the project include teaching staff from both primary and secondary schools within Mafa LGA.
Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr Lawan Abba Wakilbe, commended the initiative, describing it as a crucial intervention in tackling the shortage of teacher accommodation.
“This project is a testament to the governor’s commitment to transforming the education sector by addressing one of the most pressing challenges — the lack of suitable accommodation for teachers,” Wakilbe said.
The housing, complex, as gathered by WorldClass247News, is part of a broader initiative by the Zulum administration aimed at rebuilding infrastructure and restoring essential public services in communities affected by insurgency across Borno State.
