Wrestling legend Rey Mysterio recently revealed that his daughter, Aalyah Gutierrez, stepped into the wrestling ring for the very first time and left quite an impression.
In an interview with the Shoboy Show, Mysterio shared the proud moment, saying 24-year-old Aalyah had been asking him for over a year to let her experience the ring for herself.
“She wanted the curiosity,” Mysterio said. “Like, what does it feel like? She’s never been in the ring. And she’s like, ‘Dad, when are you taking me to the ring just to play around or to get in there?’”
The WWE Hall of Famer made her a deal: she could step into the ring once she graduated. That milestone came in June, and Aalyah held her father to his word.
“When she graduated, she kept bugging me, and I said, ‘Okay, let’s go,’” Mysterio recalled.
What happened next surprised even him.
“She jumped in there, and she impressed me,” he said. “A person that has never been in the ring before to do the things she did—it’s either got to come from the genes. You don’t learn that overnight.”
While Aalyah has made on-screen appearances for WWE in the past, including a storyline with Dominik Mysterio and the Mysterio family, this marks her first time actually training inside the ropes.
No word yet on whether Aalyah plans to pursue a wrestling career but if her dad’s reaction is any indication, she may already have what it takes.
