The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sounded the alarm over escalating violence and internal strife within the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), warning that the unrest poses a growing threat to public peace and stability across the state.
In a statement issued by its state chairman, Sunday Bisi, the PDP condemned what it described as “a dangerous descent into chaos” among APC members ahead of their upcoming primary elections.
The party accused the APC of turning Osun into a battleground over internal rivalries, citing a breakdown of discipline, violent confrontations, and inflammatory rhetoric among rival factions.
“This is no longer politics,” Bisi said. “What we are witnessing in Osun APC today is a desperate power struggle that has spiraled out of control. Their leaders have lost grip, and their members are now a threat to public order.”
The PDP cited recent incidents of violence, including reported assaults during a local consultation in Apomu and public threats between rival APC factions in Ilesa, as evidence of the party’s internal crisis spilling onto the streets.
Bisi also criticized the leadership of the APC for failing to rein in its members, accusing them of encouraging name-calling, reckless accusations, and intimidation.
The statement called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the national leader of the APC, to urgently intervene and restore order within the party’s Osun chapter before the situation further deteriorates.
“The President must not allow Osun APC to embarrass his government or destabilize the peace that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration has worked hard to build,” the statement said.
Bisi further urged national security agencies, including the Nigeria Police, the DSS, and the NSCDC, to take proactive steps to prevent a breakdown of law and order. He warned that the PDP and the state government would not tolerate any attempt to disrupt the hard-won peace in the state.
“Governor Adeleke has prioritized inclusive governance and peace in Osun. We will not sit back while political desperadoes try to destroy that legacy. Anyone who attempts to bring violence into our state will face the full weight of the law,” he warned.
Reaffirming the PDP’s commitment to peace and responsible leadership, Bisi appealed to the people of Osun to remain calm and law-abiding, emphasizing that the state belongs to all and must not be sacrificed for personal political ambition.
