Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have decried the worsening security situation in the country, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government of orchestrating anti-democratic actions and economic hardship.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its 7th meeting, in Zamfara state in Saturday, the Forum expressed deep appreciation to party members and supporters across the country for their unwavering commitment “in the face of serious intimidation and untold anti-democratic actions” allegedly perpetrated by the ruling APC during the August 9 nationwide bye-elections.
The governors also lauded the party’s national leadership for standing firm against what they called “orchestrated defections,” and maintained that the PDP’s popular support remains intact.
Reaffirming its support for the resolutions of the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in July, the Forum pledged its readiness for the PDP’s National Convention scheduled for November 15, 2025.
The governors urged members to resist any attempt to derail the process, describing the PDP as “the only viable alternative” to restore democratic governance and development in Nigeria.
The Forum condemned what it described as the APC’s divisive governance style, stating that it has led to worsening hardship and widespread discontent across the country. The governors emphasized their determination to “rescue Nigeria and Nigerians” from what they termed a failed leadership.
While commending the efforts of Zamfara State Governor, Dr. Dauda Lawal, in improving security within the state, the PDP governors condemned the continued killings in other parts of the country, notably Katsina, Plateau, Niger, and Benue States.
The Forum called on the federal government to act decisively in protecting lives and property nationwide.
The Forum sharply criticized the August 9 bye-elections, citing “over-militarization, vote buying, and violence” as hallmarks of the exercise. They urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and defend the integrity of the electoral process.
The PDP Governors expressed gratitude to the people and government of Zamfara for their hospitality during the meeting and congratulated Governor Dauda Lawal for his strides in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security.
They also extended condolences to the people of Zamfara on the passing of the Emir of Gusau and to the government and people of Oyo State over the loss of traditional rulers.
